Thick domain walls in a polynomial approximation.
Relativistic domain walls are studied in the framework of a polynomial approximation to the field interpolating between different vacua and forming the domain wall. In this approach we can calculate evolution of a core and of a width of the domain wall. In the single, cubic polynomial approximation used in this paper, the core obeys Nambu-Goto equation for a relativistic membrane. The width of ...
متن کاملThick Domain Walls around a Black Hole
We discuss the gravitationally interacting system of a thick domain wall and a black hole. We numerically solve the scalar field equation in the Schwarzschild spacetime and obtain a sequence of static axi-symmetric solutions representing thick domain walls. We find that, for the walls near the horizon, the Nambu–Goto approximation is no longer valid.
متن کاملThick self-gravitating plane-symmetric domain walls
We investigate a self-gravitating thick domain wall for a λΦ potential. The system of scalar and Einstein equations admits two types of non-trivial solutions: domain wall solutions and false vacuum-de Sitter solutions. The existence and stability of these solutions depends on the strength of the gravitational interaction of the scalar field, which is characterized by the number ǫ. For ǫ ≪ 1, we...
متن کاملA Polynomial Time Approximation
In this paper we study the following problem: Given n strings s1; s2; : : : ; sn, each of length m, nd a substring ti of length L for each si, and a string s of length L, such that max n i=1 d(s; ti) is minimized, where d(;) is the Hamming distance. The problem was raised in 6] in an application of genetic drug target search and is a key open problem in many applications 7]. The authors of 6] s...
متن کاملDomain Walls in QCD
QCD was shown to have a nontrivial vacuum structure due to the topology of the θ ≡ θ+2πn parameter. As a result of this nontrivial topology, in the large Nc limit, quasi-stable QCD domain walls appear, characterized by a transition in the singlet η field. We discuss the physics of these QCD domain walls as well as related axion domain walls and we present a new type of axion wall which also con...
